18th Meeting of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities

On 11-12 May 2016 in Sarajevo, representatives of the Inspector General for the Protection of Personal Data took part in the 18th Meeting of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities (CEEDPA). This year's event was hosted by the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Participants at the meeting included representatives of 16 data protection authorities from the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Russian Federation, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and a representative from the Council of Europe.

On the first day of the meeting, a general session was held, with a welcome speech by the Director of the Data Protection Agency and highlighted by a video presentation by the European Data Protection Supervisor. The first thematic session dealt with the issue of video-surveillance in the public and private sectors, while the second thematic session was devoted to the following issues: the processing of special categories of personal data by health care institutions, the protection of data subjects' rights and the protection of personal data in the public sector.

The second day of the meeting focused on the issue of collection and processing of biometric data and the issue of cross-border data transfers and protection measures applied to the processing of personal data in different countries.

During the meeting, the Declaration on a new member of the Group of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities was adopted, whereby the Personal Data Protection Agency of Armenia was accepted as a member of the Group.

It was also decided that the 19th CEEDPA meeting will be held in 2017 in Georgia.
